Welcome to the SESAR / Next Gen ‘Special Bulletin’. We would like to thank all the members of the network
who have contributed their time to this issue.
The first article in this edition is from the Swiss ANSP ‘Skyguide’. The article looks at ‘The Virtual Center’
concept. The Virtual Centre is a group of ATS units operating in multiple locations using standardised
operations and equipment thus are perceived as a single ATS unit.
The second item is written by Peter van Hoogstraten, Chairman Standing Comitte Operations at FABEC.
Various initiatives were agreed on by the FABEC ANSP’s in January this year and the article focuses on the
‘Free route airspace’ implementation strategy.
We have already seen the initial steps to this concept with the introduction of night-time routes and direct
routes by the Maastricht UAC in 2010 and 2011.
The ‘Next Generation’ of ControllerWorking Positions is the subject of the third article from Indra Sistemas.
This CWP has been developed using ‘open-architechture’.
The final article in this publication is ‘2020 Foresight’- A Systems-engineering approach to assessing the
safety of the SESAR Operational Concept. Following a show of interest about this article on the ATC Network
‘Linked in’ discussion pages we approached the authors to publish it.
As the article is quite substantial we have only published the introduction in this magazine and the link to
the complete article, hosted on ATC Network, can be found at the bottom of page 13.
We hope you enjoy this edition of the ‘Special Bulletin’.
