Education information
Obstacle clearance is the primary safety consideration in developing instrument approach procedures. The ICAO Document 8168 PANS-OPS, Vol. II specifies detailed criteria for the protection of instrument flight procedures including departures, en-route as well as arrivals and approaches.
This training course may be customized in topics and length. The minimum course duration is set to 4 days. The full training course will last 6 weeks.
A 4-day course provides a comprehensive overview of the flight procedure design and obstacle clearance criteria specified in ICAO PANS-OPS. Attendees will learn basic principles of flight procedure design and will be able to assess the significance of critical objects and to discuss appropriate alternative measures.
The 6-week course is targeted to future procedure designers. It provides the initial training where the attendees will learn basic skills and knowledge of flight procedure design according to ICAO PANS-OPS criteria. Through practical exercises, participants will be able to design flight procedures. In order to avoid information overload, the course is split into two 3-week periods. The course is compliant to ICAO Doc 9906 Quality Assurance Manual for Flight Procedure Design, Vol. II Flight Procedure Designer Training.
