Jotron Ricochet to record Belgian air traffic

- Larvik, Norway
Christian Pindsle, International Sales Director for ATC & Coastal

Jotron AS has merged efforts with the Belgian ANSP, skeyes, to supply one of the largest nationwide ATC recording systems in Europe.

The Norwegian manufacturer of modern Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems will provide fully redundant recorder systems with the capability to record and synchronously replay over 2000 audio channels. This contract adds to the series of contracts Jotron has previously won, where they have supplied nationwide recording solutions to Norway, Spain, UK, Sweden, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark and Poland.

The contract encompasses installation at 6 sites throughout Belgium, including the country’s main airport in the capital Brussels. All sites will possess an independent recording and replay system. Jotron will also supply a centralized replay system at skeyes’ headquarters at CANAC Air Control Center (ACC) in Brussels.

The Ricochet recorder system has the significant advantage of being very flexible, modular and user-friendly. This facilitates a seamless and effortless integration with the advanced Thales ATC system at CANAC ACC, and with skeys’ Airport Movement System (AMS) – a comprehensive tower system used to manage and monitor aircraft movements on the airport grounds.

skeyes is an autonomous public company in charge of the safety of air traffic in the civil airspace for which the Belgian State is responsible. skeyes decided to upgrade their former recording system after being operational for more than 20 years. Jotron won the public tender for the most advantageous technical and economic proposal. The parties will closely collaborate on the installation across various locations, with the new systems scheduled for completion in Q2 2025.

“We are genuinely pleased to be chosen again as the supplier of large recording solutions – and to be the preferred suppliers to European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) for countrywide recording,” Christian Pindsle, International Sales Director for ATC & Coastal at Jotron confirms. – The collaboration with skeyes has been highly effective, and together we have further enhanced passenger flight safety in Belgium. We are committed to customer service and will assist and support skeyes in the best possible way.

Erik Scheirlinckx, Supervisor Voice team at skeyes, Belgium supports this statement: “After a thorough bidding process, we have made a strong choice of supplier and look forward to continuing our work with Jotron.”
