Naviair upgrades to ambient recording with Jotron Ricochet

Jotron AS, a leading manufacturer of professional communication systems for safety across various industries, has collaborated with Naviair to successfully enhance their existing legal recording system by incorporating advanced ambient recording capabilities. The Danish air navigation service provider is responsible for managing air traffic within Denmark's controlled airspace. They have been using Jotron Ricochet Recorders for air traffic control since 2016.

Ambient recording at Danish airports has become mandatory due to new EU regulations. In response, Naviair took the initiative to form a project group dedicated to testing and ensuring compliance with these requirements. This proactive approach aimed to streamline the implementation process and maintain high standards for air traffic management and safety across the nation's airports.

The EU regulations require that air traffic services units must have devices that record background communication and the aural environment at the workstations of air traffic controllers, flight information service officers, or AFIS officers. These devices must retain at least 30 days of recorded data, unless otherwise specified by the competent authority, and will be used solely for investigating accidents and incidents that require mandatory reporting.

Jotron Ricochet recorders excel in capturing, storing, and retrieving communication data in mission-critical environments. After thorough preparation, Naviair has signed an agreement to purchase a comprehensive equipment bundle from Jotron. Testing and installation of the equipment will take place at Copenhagen, Roskilde, Billund and Aalborg airports, and will be conducted by Naviair. This project is set to be finalized before the summer of 2025, ensuring that all recording systems are operational and compliant with the new regulations.
