Norwegian ANSP chooses Airways simulator solution

- Christchurch, New Zealand.

Airways International Ltd is pleased to announce it has been selected by Avinor Air Navigation Services (ANS) to deliver TotalControl simulator systems at six air traffic control units throughout Norway.

Avinor ANS awarded the contract to Airways in mid April following a rigorous contract tender and negotiations process involving ATC simulator providers across the globe. The Avinor ANS contract is to supply and install multiple Tower and Approach simulation systems at Avinor ANS’ facilities at Gardermoen Tromsø, Bodø, Værnes, Flesland and Sola airports. The contract also includes 17 custom aerodromes and six mobile simulators.

Airways International Ltd CEO Sharon Cooke says, “We’re delighted to have been chosen by Avinor ANS to supply and install various configurations of our TotalControl simulation solution.”

“We would like to congratulate Avinor ANS on the award of this significant contract during turbulent times in the aviation industry, and we look forward to partnering with them to support their future ATC training using TotalControl simulators.

“Our advanced simulation technology showcases our ‘TrueView’ next generation tower visuals, which have proved to be a real point of difference in the global market, and the flexibility and mobility of our solution was also a significant advantage for Avinor ANS,” Ms Cooke says.

Anders Kirsebom, CEO of Avinor Air Navigation Services says, “We are pleased to announce the award of a contract to Airways New Zealand to supply and install their TotalControl simulator solution for tower and approach for Avinor ANS. We look forward to working closely with them in the years to come.”

The first TotalControl simulator is scheduled to be installed and operational at Gardermoen Tower by 1 October 2020. Airways has also signed a five-year contract with Avinor ANS for simulator license, support and maintenance.

Airways worked with Avinor ANS to develop an implementation plan intended to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on project delivery and implementation timeframes during this period of travel and border restrictions.

“The strategy outlines a clear plan to commence Gardermoen training with new simulators on or before 1 October. We have assured Avinor ANS of our absolute commitment to deliver a simulator solution that meets their requirements within this timeframe,” Ms Cooke says.

Airways’ TotalControl is one of the most realistic and flexible simulation platforms on the global market, with real-world tower graphics that take advantage of terrain mapping data, photo-realistic 3D rendered models and TotalControl’s leading-edge TrueView technology. The TotalControl simulation suite also includes advanced surveillance and emulates operational systems, creating the most immersive learning environment for maximised training outcomes.

Developed by Airways in partnership with New Zealand-based 3D graphics experts Animation Research Ltd, Total Control simulators feature modern, easy to use interfaces and functionality, and a range of flexible configurations to meet every simulation need.
