Aveillant’s 3D Holographic Radar™ rated outstanding in US Government trials

Aveillant achieves 96% probability of aircraft detection in demanding conditions

Independent trials conducted on behalf of the US Government reveal that Aveillant’s 3D Holographic Radar™ leads the way in detecting aircraft flying over wind farms, following the British technology company’s participation in the US Interagency Field Test and Evaluation (IFT&E) program.

Funded by the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),the trials were set up to investigate and address the concerns of growing interference of wind turbines on America’s air surveillance radars.

The 3D Holographic Radar™, along with offerings from other radar vendors, was deployed in a high density wind farm in Abilene, Texas. “Blind” flight trials were carried out and vendors were not given any information regarding the aircraft flights to be monitored. Data from the radars were recorded during the day and passed to Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory (MIT LL) for offline advanced analysis.

The results revealed that Aveillant’s 3D Holographic Radar™ achieved a probability of detection (PD) of 96% of aircraft flying within the wind farm test area, higher than any other system being assessed. Aveillant’s technology outperformed the baseline DoD/FAA and other surveillance radars taking part in the trials on every test, including detection probability, false alarm rate and continuous tracking. In particular, in the key area of false alarm rate, Holographic Radar was judged to be 100x less likely to create a false plot.
