AVTECH’s Wake Vortex Analysis contract at Dubai International Airport is expanded

- Stockholm, Sweden

AVTECH Sweden AB (publ) (“AVTECH” or the “Company”) today announces that its associated company, AVTECH Middle East LLC, has been awarded three options to the previously communicated key contract with Dubai Airports and DANS - Serco on the study of the behavior of wake vortex generated by aircrafts arriving at Dubai International Airport. AVTECH is a key-supplier of know-how to AVTECH Middle East LLC who is priming the contract with the customer.

The previously communicated value to AVTECH of the primary scope of the project is approximately 3,1 MSEK during 14 months, and the estimated maximum value of the awarded options is an additional 2,8 MSEK to the Company during the same time period. There is furthermore a potential for extension and additional options being contracted.

Ryan Ellison, Business Unit Director Consultancy at AVTECH says, “The objective of the expansion is to increase the understanding of wake vortices in a dense traffic environment. The overall purpose of the project is to assist in increasing capacity at the world’s second busiest airport in terms of international traffic. AVTECH has assembled a best in class consortium of industry experts to measure and analyze the actual performance of wake vortices, in terms of both intensity and movement”.

In connection to the primary contract being publicly communicated, Helen Woodrow, VP Forecasting and Research at Dubai Airports added: “We have one of the industry’s most proactive growth plans at Dubai Airports to cater for the estimated 100 million passengers we expect to pass through our airports by 2020. This project is indicative of the initiatives we are taking to optimize the efficiency of our operation and augment safety as well as capacity.”

The overall project utilizes LIDAR equipment provided by Lockheed Martin, which uses laser light sensors to measure the wake vortices, exploiting detailed meteorological data provided by Panasonic Weather Solutions, formerly AirDat, and benefits from the experience of aircraft Flight Management System manufacturer Honeywell. Additionally, NATS provides detailed operational analysis of data, using experience developed conducting similar studies at London’s Heathrow Airport. AVTECH Sweden provides Wake Vortex Monte Carlo simulations, data analysis and technical project management. AVTECH Middle East primes the contract with the customer and provides overall project management.
