BAA Heathrow Copperchase AFGATE-AFTN Message Distributor Systems
BAA at Heathrow recently took delivery of two new Copperchase AFGATE AFTN Message Distributor Systems and a number of new AFTERM Messaging Terminals, for their primary and backup Stand Allocation Departments. The system distributes key ATC Flight Movement messages to a number of controller positions within the departments.
The system includes the Copperchase AFMailer - AFTN/EMAIL Gateway. The Copperchase AFTN/EMAIL AFMailer is a Gateway between the AFTN network and email.
AFMailer receives ATC messages from the AFTN network via other standard AFGATE applications (ROUTER, SERIALPORT), re-addresses them as emails and then transmits them to a configured Mail Server Account. At BAA Heathrow the AFMailer is configured to convert received ATC weather warnings to email and send them to a BAA email distribution group to which a number of controllers have access.
A typical Setup of a AFGATE/AFMailer setup can be seen below.
