Slovakian Transport Authority certifies Comsoft Solutions’ MLAT technology for civil aviation use

Letové prevádzkové služby Slovenskej republiky, š. p. (LPS), the Air Navigation Services Provider
(ANSP) of the Slovak Republic, has successfully installed Comsoft Solutions’ Local Area
Multilateration System (LAM) solution, providing a modernised surveillance infrastructure and
enhanced air traffic services. The solution is now certified by the Slovak Transport Authority,
authorising its use in civil aviation as an aeronautical ground facility.

The solution at M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava, in addition to the state-of-the-art ADS-B
technology already operationally verified, consists of eight Quadrant sensors, a dual redundant
Quadrant Central Processor QCP, a dual redundant Quadrant Interrogation Controller QIC, and
four Quadrant Control and Monitoring Systems (QCMS), allowing for maintenance, configuration
and statistics for up to 128 ground stations and ensuring the permanent performance supervision
of all units. Interfacing between sensors, transmitters and the QCP/QIC servers uses standard
Ethernet-LAN.

The German expert first worked with LPS in 2007 when implementing AMHS solution AIDA-NG and
in 2010 LPS first chose Quadrant ADS-B in order to prepare for future ARTAS implementation. The
LAM system for LPS provides Multilateration (MLAT) coverage of the airport surface, for collecting
surveillance data for aircraft identification.

Comsoft Solutions’ superior Quadrant ADS-B sensor, a lightweight and cost-efficient alternative
to conventional secondary surveillance radar, allows development of surveillance infrastructures
to be increased without costly technological investments. Advanced MLAT algorithms precisely
calculate aircraft positions and are typically updated much more frequently than conventional
radar, allowing for a reduction of secondary coverage gaps.
