DF Nucleo begins to develop the new version of the ETM in collaboration with ENAIRE
- Madrid, Spain.
DF Núcleo has been awarded a new contract with Enaire to carry out the upgrade to the new version of the Multiprotocol Test Equipment (ETM in Spanish), the SIGNUM T60.
This new version will represent the sixth version of the measurement unit, designed in collaboration with ENAIRE, which performs the analysis and diagnosis of protocols and lines used in Air Traffic Control Centres (ATC) communications, specifically in Voice Communications Systems (VCS).
Current System: SIGNUM T50
The SIGNUM T50 is mainly used during the commissioning of aeronautical communication projects and for the maintenance of the corresponding systems, drastically optimising the verification process in both phases by taking signalling and quality measurements.
- Signalling: monitoring, supervision and emulation of communication lines and protocols.
- Quality: measurement of audio/objective calls (gain, distortion, noise, delay) and subjective calls (PESQ: Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) quality.
The SIGNUM T60 will implement a network performance manager that will take non-intrusive audio-quality measurements to supervise and evaluate the VoIP communications of an entire operating network.
The system is used for the analysis of ATS communications and supports multiple analogue and VoIP protocols: EUROCAE VoIP standards, Eurocontrol analogue standards and analogue telephony protocols. In addition, the tool allows the incorporation of specific and proprietary protocols, as is the case of AENA and ENAIRE.
As a key feature, the ETM has two independent circuits and therefore allows two tests to be run simultaneously. The SIGNUM T50 is currently the only tool on the market that is capable of analysing VoIP and analogue communication networks at the same time.
This work tool is compatible with all VCS used in ATC and can take the form of a laptop PC or can be connected to a 19'' rack.
Evolution of the system: SIGNUM T60
The new version of the ETM covers both the evolution of the hardware (incorporating cutting-edge electronic components) and the software of the current Multiprotocol Test Equipment, improving and expanding its functions. The SIGNUM T60 will provide better coexistence between the current analogue/digital signalling and pure VoIP communication systems.
The SIGNUM T60 will also implement a network performance manager that will take non-intrusive audio-quality measurements to supervise and evaluate the VoIP communications of an entire operating network.
Background
The unit began its journey 22 years ago, when ENAIRE (AENA at that time) and DF Núcleo (Page at that time) designed an analysis and emulation tool for communication lines with ATS-R2 protocol. The rest of the protocols and standards were progressively incorporated in later versions, giving it its multiprotocol capabilities.
At present, the SIGNUM T50 has been supplied to all of the communication centres in the AENA network and has been exported to several countries in Europe (Bulgaria, Denmark and Ireland) and Africa (Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco).
