A new Control Tower at Strasbourg
The control unit of Strasbourg provides ATS over the North-East area of France and cross-border ATS over Germany for Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden and Lahr aerodromes.
DSNA, the French Air Navigation Service Provider, is continuing the modernisation of its infrastructures. Nowadays, the air navigation services at Strasbourg-Entzheim airport work in a new, modern building including the control tower, the approach control unit and the maintenance operational room. DSNA has fully financed this operation.
The French-German cooperation in this part of the cross-border FABEC airspace is exemplary. Over German territory along the border, Germany has delegated approach control services to Strasbourg. Thanks to this organisation, a high level of flight safety can be maintained. Strasbourg’s air traffic controllers handle flights up to FL 145 (4 800 metres) both for IFR arrivals and departures of Strasbourg airport as well as for the two German airfields of Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden and Lahr.
28 meters high, the tower lookout covers an area of 102 square meters and afford a great visibilty on the runway and the taxiways. The approach control unit handles flights from/to Strasbourg airport, flights from/to Karlsruhe-Baden-Baden and Lahr and transit flights. In this new building, all technical equipments are gathered in a spacious maintenance room, ready to host new ATM systems.
