Electrifly lands at Maastricht Aachen Airport
EUROPE'S FIRST INTERNATIONAL ELECTRIC FLIGHTS AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AT MAASTRICHT AACHEN AIRPORT
Revolutionary eAviation trial Electrifly will offer international electric flights to the public between the airports of Maastricht, Liège and Aachen in July and August 2024.
Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA), one of the three Euregional airports, will become home base for the first publicly accessible electric flights between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. In recent months, the airport has been working behind the scenes with the airports of Aachen and Liège, FH Aachen, ASL Group and NIO on this ambitious cross-border project.
From today, interested parties can book a flight, including emission-free transport to and from the airports, via www.electrifly.store .
Electrifly is a preview of the future of eAviation, offering emission-free passenger transport between regional airports and international hubs in Europe.
In addition to electric flights, Electrifly also offers electric door-to-door transport. NIO, manufacturer of electric vehicles, will make a number of electric cars available for this trial.
FH Aachen, a leading European center for aerospace & engineering, provides the pilots as does ASL Group, a business aviation operator, ground handling service and flying school.
'Electrifly provides a glimpse into the future of aviation. It is also an invitation to all parties who want to discover the future of eAviation here with us. It is a huge step forward in realizing our mission to enable zero-emission flights for passengers. By participating in this project, we open the door for sustainable connections between regional airports and collaborations with mobility and aviation partners who pursue the same goals with regard to emission-free transport. Anyone who strives for that goal is very welcome at our airport," said Jonas van Stekelenburg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MST.
Van Stekelenburg: 'Electrifly is a great result of the collaboration between the various Euregional parties. It underlines our belief that MAA is the perfect location to further facilitate the development of eAviation.”
'The commitment, dedication and professionalism that FH, ASL and NIO have put into this project is unprecedented. We hope to continue working with FH, ASL and NIO and other parties in the future on similar projects that can accelerate the development of eAviation.'
NIO has committed to Electrifly and offers emission-free land transport in a NIO ET7. Passengers are picked up by NIO within a radius of 15 kilometers, taken to one of the three participating airports and taken to their final destination after landing. This makes Electrifly emission-free not only in the air, but also over land. Emission-free, from door to door.
"NIO is proud that we can provide the emission-free limousine service for Electrifly from door to airport and from airport to final destination," said Ruben Keuter, general manager of NIO Netherlands.
Keuter continues: 'Electrifly and NIO pursue the same goal: a cleaner future for future generations. The future is here!'
From July 1 to August 31, flights between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany in a Pipistrel, a fully electric two-seater, can be booked for passengers via www.electrifly.store .
All flights and journeys offered are based on the EASA cost-sharing principle, whereby costs are shared between the pilot and the passenger.
Maastricht Aachen Airport is part of Power Up. A joint learning environment of, among others, the Dutch airports to gain knowledge of the feasibility, potential and handling of electric flights.
With Electrifly, Maastricht Aachen Airport will experience for a period of 2 months what it takes to facilitate electric flights on a continuous basis. This is how we prepare for the future of eAviation.
