Era Corporation Receives Another Radar Type Certification
Era Corporation has received type certification for its next-generation surveillance system from the Slovak Republic, which certified the system according to ICAO Annex 10 and Eurocontrol surveillance standards.
Eras certification was the result of a six-month process involving laboratory and field testing of the surveillance system in the Slovak Republic. The system was evaluated against reference surveillance systems, such as existing secondary surveillance radar and test-flights by aircraft equipped with differential GPS, and was demonstrated to meet all performance requirements.
Because of the safety critical nature of air traffic management equipment, type certification is an extremely rigorous process and demands flawless performance from the system being tested, said Russell Hulstrom, VP and General Manager of Eras ATM Solutions business unit. Certification, in yet another country, shows the growing global acceptance of not only Eras technology, but multilateration and ADS-B as next-generation surveillance tools and replacements for Secondary Surveillance Radars (SSRs).
In the past few years, numerous ANSPs (Air Navigation Service Providers) and CAAs (Civil Aviation Authorities) have certified that Era systems meet or exceed the required performance standards of traditional radar. MSS by Era provides higher accuracy, greater update rates, better coverage and improved reliability when compared to conventional radar, and does so at a much lower initial cost and with lower annual maintenance costs. Furthermore, MSS decodes ADS-B signals to all applicable standards, while simultaneously providing multilateration position reports from all aircraft, even those not yet equipped for ADS-B.
