Malta enhances airspace communication with FREQUENTIS Comsoft
Malta Air Traffic Services Ltd. (MATS) has successfully installed the aeronautical message handling (AMHS) switch from Frequentis Comsoft. The solution replaces its previous fixed terminal network messages (AFTN) system, increasing its communication capability and fully supporting the ICAO basic and extended AMHS service profiles.
“For MATS, our vision is to be recognised as one of the most respected ANSPs in the Euro-Mediterranean region. This means providing safe, reliable and on time services for our customers. I would like to express my appreciation and satisfaction for the newly installed Frequentis Comsoft AMHS system and the excellent and professional project delivery, which met, and at times exceeded, our expectations. The system has proved to be a very reliable and stable platform, which bodes well for its entry into service later this year.”, stated Leslie Zammit, MATS Senior Head Technical Services (PM AMHS)
Malta, in the Mediterranean, is the world’s tenth smallest country but attracts over two million tourists per year from across the world – over five times the countries population.
“We are pleased to welcome MATS as a new customer and look forward to continuing this great working relationship. We have provided them with the most modern and reliable message handling system, enabling them to enhance the safety and reliability of their air traffic services. As the demand for air travel continues to grow, ANSPs must embrace modern technology that increases safety and efficiency.”, says Frequentis Comsoft CEO Thomas Hoffman.
AIDA-NG systems have been tested and approved to switch a permanent load of more than 900 messages per second and is already prepared for all future aeronautical messaging environments. High message loads do not affect the exceptional response time of the management interface. Overload situations are prevented by extensive flow control mechanisms. Excellent performance and operational service availability are guaranteed.
Frequentis Comsoft’s Aeronautical Integrated Data Exchange Agent – Next Generation (AIDA-NG) was designed in close cooperation with leading air navigation service providers (ANSPs). It is a unified message handling switch enabling AFTN, Common ICAO Data Interchange Network (CIDIN), and AMHS messages to be exchanged, based on the European ATM Communication Gateway (ECG) software.
