DFS relies on KVM systems from G&D
Cooperation between DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and KVM specialists Guntermann & Drunck GmbH to ensure system safety and efficiency
DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is one of the world’s most important ANSP (Air Navigation Service Provider). With 65 years of experience, it controls over 3 million aircraft movements per year. For this purpose, the company uses state-of-the-art systems to support air traffic controllers in their work and ensure maximum system security. By using cutting-edge technologies and professionally trained personnel, Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH plays a pioneering role among air navigation providers.
For many years, the German ANSP has been using KVM systems (systems for transmitting and switching computer signals such as keyboard, video and mouse) from Guntermann & Drunck GmbH (G&D) to make it even easier and safer to operate their systems. The niche technology makes it possible to remove the computers required for navigation from the control environment – and still operate them in real time. In addition, G&D switches can be used to create comprehensive redundancy concepts.
Human factors get ideal system support
DFS is committed to increasing the productivity of existing airspace structures and the human-computer interaction in air traffic control, taking into account constantly changing requirements. The new concepts and systems from in-house research and development make a decisive contribution to this. In order to simplify operation and, in particular, administration without disrupting the air traffic controllers, for some time now DFS has been working with KVM manufacturers G&D, who specialize in ATC applications. Their systems are used in all mission-critical areas such as the center and tower and are also included in DFS’s remote tower concept.
Broad cooperation confirmed
With their strong focus on ATC applications, G&D are able to meet the requirements of DFS to a particularly high degree. Their portfolio comprises a range of products, functions and monitoring features that have been specially tailored to air navigation services. In addition, the G&D trainer team trained more than 150 employees at four different locations comprehensively on the systems.
In order to further consolidate the good cooperation between the two companies, it has now been contractually confirmed. Both parties expect great advantages from this cooperation. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH will now be able to discuss extended product requirements directly with the manufacturers. Thus, both the efficiency and the reliability of the constantly improved systems will continue to benefit from the use of KVM. Thanks to the cooperation, G&D are even closer to the ATC market and can thus further align their portfolio with market requirements.
