Harris Corporation to Modernize Air Traffic Control Systems in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has been selected to modernize critical air traffic control (ATC) communications at three international airports in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Harris will supply its Liberty-STAR™ Voice Communication and Control Systems (VCCS) to the Bangoka International Airport in Kisangani, Kinshasa (N'djili) International Airport and Lubumbashi International Airport.

Liberty-STAR™ VCCS features a modular architecture, open-platform software and commercial-off-the-shelf hardware that delivers a reliable, scalable communications solution for ATC towers, airline and area control dispatch, flight service stations, and mobile shelters. Each system will be equipped with touch-screen operator positions, radio interfaces, telephone interfaces, and a System Maintenance, Administration and Reconfiguration Terminal (SMART) POSITION™.

Harris has extensive experience developing mission-critical solutions that support civil and military ATC operations worldwide, including more than 200 customers in 60 countries. The contract is the latest for Harris in the region having previously supplied communications systems for a number of countries in the Africa, including Angola, Algeria, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and South Africa.
