Harris Corporation to Supply Air Traffic Control System for Equatorial Guinea Airport

- MELBOURNE, FL/GATINEAU, QC, Canada,

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has been selected to supply critical air traffic control (ATC) communications to the Corisco Airport in Equatorial Guinea.

Harris will supply its Liberty-STAR™ Voice Communication and Control System (VCCS), to the recently built airport, which serves the island of Corisco.

Liberty-STAR VCCS features a modular architecture, open-platform software and commercial-off-the-shelf hardware that delivers a reliable, scalable communications solution for ATC towers, airline and area control dispatch, flight service stations, and mobile shelters. The system will be equipped with touch-screen operator positions, radio interfaces, telephone interfaces, and a System Maintenance, Administration and Reconfiguration Terminal (SMART) POSITION™.

“The country long expressed a desire to develop and promote tourism on the island which was previously only accessible by boat,” said Carl D’Alessandro, vice president and general manager, Civil Programs, Harris Government Communications Systems. “This Harris solution will allow more people to take advantage of the new airport and travel to the island in a safe, efficient manner.”

Harris has extensive experience developing mission-critical solutions that support civil and military air traffic control operations worldwide, including more than 200 customers in nearly 60 countries. This is the company’s second ATC communications contract in Equatorial Guinea. Harris has supplied communications systems for a wide range of countries in the African region, including South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Algeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
