Indra leader in the Horizon 2020 European Innovation Program
Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, has positioned itself as the foremost Spanish company within the Horizon 2020 Program (H2020), the most ambitious program launched by the European Union (EU) and which is the main instrument of financing of research activities, technological development, demonstration and innovation in Europe.
According to the results analysis carried out by the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), Indra achieved the top position as a Spanish company in terms of results obtained and the fourth worldwide. In addition, it leads the ranking within the Transport sector. All this has been possible thanks to its essential role as a technological pillar of SESAR, a program that seeks to triple air traffic capacity, increase safety and reduce environmental impact; or Shift2Rail, which seeks to promote the competitiveness of the European rail industry and ensure the attractiveness of rail as a low-carbon, safe and sustainable mode of transport capable of meeting the changing transport needs and mobility of EU citizens.
Likewise, Indra is coordinating the Transforming Transport project, in which 47 organizations from 9 countries try to demonstrate how Big Data can improve the management and service provided to customers in the logistics and transport sector.
Other examples in which Indra collaborates within this program are the Clean Sky 2 projects, to improve the environmental impact of European aeronautical technologies and guarantee the competitiveness of the sector; ROMEO, a project for the energy sector that uses cloud and Internet of Things technologies to reduce operation and maintenance costs in offshore wind farms; or CPSE Labs, where it promotes the construction of new solutions to improve the management of Smart Cities through the IoT and Big Data.
Innovation in its DNA
Indra is among the companies in its sector that most invests in R&D+i at European level after having earmarked more than 1 billion euros for this purpose in the last six years. In addition, its innovation model has become a key lever to promote its transformation and growth.
Through it, Indra improves its portfolio of solutions and products and seeks to create a more innovative culture throughout the organization, through intrapreneurship initiatives, relationships with startups and links with universities. Through Indraventures, the vehicle to channel these types of initiatives launched by the company in 2016, it has analyzed over 700 startups and has reached agreements with some of them, such as AutoDrive Solutions (ADS), focused on the transport sector; the Italian Greenrail; or Zero 2 Infinity, specialized in space transport; as well as with entities such as Enisa and Socios Inversores, among others.
In addition, it has launched various internal initiatives to promote intrapreneurship and mobilize all the talent available in the organization in order to generate disruptive ideas that can be incorporated into its offer and strengthen its technological leadership, while at the same time involving the professionals in the company's transformation, generating synergies and strengthening a new, more innovative culture.
Additionally, Indra's collaboration with the academic world reaffirms its commitment to training and talent generation, technology transfer and research, as this is demonstrated by the more than 200 agreements, chairs and classrooms in force with different universities.
Public recognition
Indra's continued commitment to innovation has been recognized by its own clients, as well as by the universities with which it collaborates, the sectors in which it operates and by society. It has recently been awarded "Most Innovative Company of 2018" according to the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Madrid.
Last year, it received the award for being the most innovative supplier of Scottish Power, a subsidiary of Iberdrola in the United Kingdom, and obtained the "Solutions Provider Innovations" award at the TM Forum's Smart City Excellence Awards, which rated the IoT Sofia2 platform of Minsait, its digital transformation unit, as a leading technology for Smart Cities worldwide.
The Polytechnic University of Madrid also acknowledged its commitment to innovation and university talent, awarding it the ETSIT-UPM 2017 award for its collaboration with the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers. The newspaper LA RAZÓN also distinguished it in the 1st Edition of the Innovation and Technology Awards, in the category of "Innovation to the social project" and this year, its Smart Cities solution, City Landscape Manager, was awarded as one of the "100 best ideas" by the magazine Actualidad Económica.
