INDRA signs contract with COCESNA to provide primary surveillance radar for MANAGUA Airport

During the first day of the World ATM Congress in Madrid, Indra signed a contract with CANSO (Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services) to install a new primary surveillance radar (PSR) which will serve the Augusto César Sandino International Airport in Managua, Nicaragua.

The contract was signed in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of COCESNA, Capitan Carlos Salazar, the Executive Chairman of COCESNA, Jorge Vagas, Indra's General Manager, Rafael Gallego, and Indra's Chairman & CEO, Fernando Abril-Martorell.

This agreement expands COCESNA's network of non-cooperative radars in the terminal areas of its main airports. This guarantees greater security since it is possible to detect any intrusion into the terminal airspace of manned and unmanned planes with no transponder. Also, COCESNA adds to the weather information in the region since the equipment includes a weather channel.

This latest-generation primary radar joins a similar radar which Indra recently installed in El Salvador at the Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdaméz International Airport as well as the radar that will be installed in Costa Rica at the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José.

Indra is one of the leading providers of air traffic management systems in the world, and has installed its systems in over 4,000 facilities and 160 countries.

As for air surveillance systems, Indra is one of the main providers of radar systems in the world. Indra's primary surveillance radars were top sellers outside the USA, while Indra's mode S secondary radars, which feature the most advanced aircraft identification technology, are currently operating at 175 facilities all over the planet. These systems currently cover air traffic surveillance for 60% of Chinese airspace, practically all skies over India and 90% of skies over Ecuador, among others.

This new contract in Nicaragua reinforces Indra's solid relationship as a technology provider for the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA). Currently all the higher air space in Central America managed by this organization is coordinated with Indra technology. The member countries of the Corporation have also chosen the company's technology to upgrade their infrastructures. In the rest of Latin America, Indra has supplied systems to countries such as the Bahamas, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil, and is one of the leading providers of this technology.

COCESNA, new CANSO partner

Additionally, at its booth at the World ATM Congress, Indra hosted the official integration of COCESNA into the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO).

COCESNA representatives, the Chairman of CANSO, Paul Riemens, and Indra's Chairman & CEO, Fernando Abril Martorell, attended the signing of the contract.

CANSO members benefit from advice and consultancy services and can share experiences and knowledge with providers of navigation services from across the world thanks to the close contact they maintain with all of them.

CANSO is a global "spokesperson" for the air traffic management sector and aims to increase the performance of air traffic management. CANSO represents its members' standpoint in a wide range of bodies, such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) where it acts as official observer. CANSO members manage 85% of the world's air traffic.
