Indra to deliver a Radar System to Chile to enhance air traffic management
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Chile (DGAC) awarded Indra a contract for the provision of a new radar system and its implementation in Concepción.
The system will improve surveillance of the air space in this zone and will enter service this year.
The company will deliver a secondary radar system Mode S, the most advanced technology in the detection and identification of aircrafts. Indra has delivered air traffic management (ATM) systems for over 30 years across the globe, with more than 1,200 units implemented in over 95 countries.
The system will ask the aircraft for flight information and identification. The information will be transmitted to Santiago's control centre. This way, air traffic controllers will have an improved and more accurate view of air movements in this area of the country.
The system, developed by Indra, was chosen after passing demanding technical tests and the economic evaluation undertaken by DGACC. Although the main developers of this type of systems worldwide competed Indra's offer scored the highest.
ATM leadership
Indra was awarded last year a contract to deliver two portable secondary radar systems mode-S to Brazil. In Peru the company is deploying an MSSR Mode S radar surveillance network which will cover almost the whole Peruvian air space and Lima's control centre is equipped with Indra's automated air traffic management systems.
On the other hand, the company maintains a long-standing collaboration with the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA) and has implemented the systems which manage the upper air space of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Belize. Besides this, the control centres and airports of all these countries are equipped with Indra's technology.
Indra has delivered many modernisation projects of ATM infrastructures in Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
