NATCA Urges Swift Confirmation of Michael Huerta as FAA Administrator
As the holiday travel season gets underway, air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals represented by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) continue their work to safely guide millions of travelers to their destinations. U.S. airspace system is ready to handle the increased traffic safely and efficiently thanks to the leadership shown this year by Federal Aviation Administration Acting Administrator Michael Huerta. NATCA urges the U.S. Senate to confirm him as administrator.
"President Obama made a wise decision to nominate Mr. Huerta for administrator last spring. He has been a steady hand at the controls of an agency that is making very positive strides forward in serving the public. It is time the Senate moves to approve his nomination," NATCA President Paul Rinaldi said. "I have seen first-hand Mr. Huertas passion for aviation safety and the great care and determination he puts into working with us, all FAA employees and stakeholders in the aviation community. His continued leadership is essential to maintaining our industrys progress."
Approximately 24 million people are expected to fly during this Thanksgiving travel period, a three-percent rise over the same period in 2011, according to Airlines for America. This increased travel will add to what is already a vital economic engine for this country. Commercial aviation contributes $1.3 trillion in economic activity, comprises 5.2 percent of our Gross Domestic Product annually and is responsible for 10.2 million jobs.
