Northrop Grumman to Provide the First Integrated IP-Based Air Traffic Communication System for Brazil

- Peterborough, UK

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been selected by the Brazilian Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA) to upgradethe air traffic communication systems for the entire Integrated Centre for Air Defence and Air Traffic Control 3 (CINDACTA3) airspace region of Brazil

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman’s Park Air Systems subsidiary will upgrade the existing communication system to a full internet protocol (IP)-based system, encompassing the Park Air T6 UHF/VHF range of ground-to-air communication equipment as a turnkey system. Local subcontractor ATC Systems will provide infrastructure work, installation, training and technical support. “To deliver IP-based communications coverage for a system this size and in this region is an example of how we are able to provide complex air traffic management communication systems for demanding environments,” said Charles Houseago, managing director, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems.More than 1,500 Park Air radios will be installed across 30 sites in the CINDACTA3 region and will integrate the new systems into the customer’s existing infrastructure. When completed, Park Air radios will cover more than 50% of the entire country airspace coverage for VHF communications and as such, they are now a standardised and trusted product with CISCEA.“We are very pleased with the quality of the products and services we receive from Park Air and that we can rely on their team for delivering demanding systems,” said Maj. Brigadier Carlos Vuyk de Aquino, president of CISCEA. “Their flexibility has been fundamental in the 15 years we have been partnering together.” The contract follows on from previous contracts awarded to Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems in recent years in Brazil for the CINDACTA1 and CINDACTA2 regions.
