Saab Receives Order for a Digital Tower in Romania
Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions (SDATS) has signed a contract to deliver a digital tower to providing air navigation services at the newly built Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport in Romania. The services will be operated by ROMATSA, the air navigation service provider of Romania.
The contract has been signed between Saab and a Romanian consortium led by UTI Construction and Facility Management S.A. It includes a Saab digital tower (r-TWR) system to be installed at the new airport in Brasov as well as a linked control room at the ROMATSA air traffic control centre in Arad.
Brasov-Ghimbav International Airport is the first newly built airport in Romania for over 20 years and will be operated using a digital tower.
“The installation of the Saab r-TWR at the Brasov-Ghimbav airport, will make them, the second newly constructed airport that is to use a digital tower from day one. This flexible digital solution with a technical platform will support our consortium partners, Brasov Airport and ROMATSA, in the establishment of the first operational digital tower in Romania,“ says Per Ahl, CEO of Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions

We foresee that our air traffic controllers will be able to provide services for the airport in a safe, flexible and efficient way. In the consortium and in Saab, we have found a solid and trustworthy supplier to deploy the digital tower. Saab’s digital tower solution is a breakthrough in air traffic control and was first introduced in Sweden, and has been followed by airports in Sweden, the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the USA, while also being selected by the Royal Navy for their naval air stations in the UK.
