SESAR Interview Airspace World - Trajectory-based operations - 4DSkyways & ADSCENSIO

The 5th in our series of interviews with SESAR experts at Airspace World in Geneva. Peter Alty Eurocontrol & Didier Velay DSNA talk about Trajectory-based operations - 4DSkyways & ADSCENSIO. The 4D Skyway project is researching trajectory management (TM) solutions in support of the roll-out of trajectory-based operations (TBO). As part of the goal to move to trajectory-based operations, the ADSCENSIO project focuses on improving various features of air traffic control in order to better anticipate how flights would behave.

The 4DSkyways project won the SESAR Digital European Sky award in the category 'Industrial Research'. Over the past two years, it advanced trajectory management (TM) solutions in support of the roll-out of trajectory-based operations (TBO), a critical enabler for greener and more efficient air traffic tested by controllers operations. The solutions, which were intensively tested by controllers and flight crew, allow for faster data exchange between the air and ground, as well as improved conflict detection and resolution.
