Skyguide CEO Alex Bristol to Step Down in October 2025, Peter Merz named Successor

After eight years, Alex Bristol will step down as CEO of Skyguide on 31 October 2025. He will be succeeded by Peter Merz, current Commander of the Swiss Air Force, who assumes the role on 1 November 2025.
Bristol, who first joined Skyguide as Chief Operating Officer, became CEO in 2017. Under his leadership, Skyguide strengthened its position as an international innovator in air traffic management and earned the world’s first GreenATM accreditation.
“Alex’s vision and leadership have been pivotal in shaping Skyguide’s future,” said Aldo C. Schellenberg, Chairman of the Board, highlighting Bristol's efforts in establishing a stable and inclusive workplace, particularly through the COVID crisis.
His successor, Major General Peter Merz, brings extensive aviation and leadership experience. As Swiss Air Force Commander, he has played a key role in modernising air defence and advancing Swiss aviation technology.
“Peter’s deep understanding of our industry makes him the ideal leader for Skyguide’s next chapter,” added Schellenberg.
Merz will join Skyguide on 1 October to ensure a smooth transition before officially assuming the CEO role on 1 November 2025.
