SolaCom to Deliver ATC Communication Systems to Island Nation
Integrated Voice Switching, weather and recording systems all part of turnkey solution
GATINEAU, QC, Canada September 30, 2008 - SolaCom Technologies, a communications solution company that enables interoperability over any network infrastructure, announces that its market-leading Liberty-STAR Voice Communication and Control System (VCCS) has been selected by the Villa Shipping and Trading Company (VSTC) for installation at Maamigili Airport in the Maldives.
SolaCom will integrate its Liberty-STAR VCCS, Liberty-MET meteorology system and its Liberty-RECORD Voice Recording system into the airports air traffic control tower. SolaCom will provide VSTC with a turnkey solution that includes a VCCS comprising of two touch screen operator positions, eight radio interfaces and four telephone interfaces. The sensors are from Vaisala under which SolaCom has an OEM agreement. SolaCom will deliver and install the system, as well as provide factory and site training for all air traffic control crew.

The Liberty-STAR VCCS includes:
- Mission-critical air-ground / ground-ground voice switch
- Easy-to-use, touch screen operator console
- Integrated weather monitoring console
- Sensors and antenna
- Integrated record and playback software and hardware
- System configuration tool
The weather information is provided with an ATC-focused weather monitoring software package. Large displays, charts and dials allow operators to observe current conditions in real-time. Weather data most needed by operators is provided, including wind speed, wind direction, temperature, dew point, and altimeter setting.
The SolaCom voice recorder is a 24-port digital recording solution (48 analog ports can be recorded with an optional T1 interface). A 10-segment VU-meter is provided for each channel to allow quick visual indication of call activity. An internal monitoring system with speakers lets operators listen to live audio while recording.
The Maldives is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean south of India's Lakshadweep islands, and about 435 miles south-west of Sri Lanka. The territory features 1,190 small coral islands of which over 200 are inhabited. The region boasts a growing population of over 300,000 people.
