Specialist training in New Zealand for Ghana ATCs

- Christchurch, New Zealand

A group of senior Air Traffic Controllers from Ghana, Africa, has arrived in New Zealand for specialist aviation English training from Airways New Zealand through its subsidiary, Aviation English Services.

The Ghanaians have been appointed as Raters by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and will be responsible for testing their fellow air traffic controllers for Aviation English competency. This course will improve their Aviation English Rater skills to the appropriate level.

Kelly de Lambert, Airways Acting Head of Training, says that the Ghana CAA selected Airways and Aviation English Services as its training provider because of the company’s reputation for provision of top quality training and pastoral care.

“It’s wonderful to welcome this group of Ghanaians to New Zealand, and to assist Ghana with its professional development programme,” she says.

“This is the first time we’ve received a group from Ghana, but Airways has long been recognised as a world-class training provider.  Each year we welcome groups from around the world to our training centres, and our courseware is also used internationally by organisations throughout the industry.”

“Our Aviation English programmes use aviation-specific course content and operationally focused language activities for effective language learning,” Ms de Lambert adds.

Air traffic controllers are required by ICAO to achieve the ICAO Level 4 English Language proficiency criteria before they can rate as controllers.
