Surface Movement Radars for French airports
Terma has been contracted to supply its SCANTER 2001i Surface Movement Radar (SMR) to Nice International Airport.
The SCANTER Radar Antenna installation in Toulouse Airport.
The SCANTER Radar will form part of the Thales Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) STREAMS and will be the 5th SMR installation in France under a contract with Thales and the Technical and Innovation Department (D.T.I.) of the French Air Navigation Service Provider D.S.N.A.
Besides Nice International Airport, Terma has supplied the SMR for Lyon (2002), Toulouse (2004), Basel Mulhouse (2006) and Marseilles (2010).
Terma has also supplied its SCANTER Radars for the two airports operated by Aeroport de Paris; Charles de Gaulle and Orly (2001) bringing the total to seven airports operating the SCANTER SMR.
Surface Movement Radar systems are used by air traffic controllers to detect and guide aircraft and vehicles (i.e. baggage carriers, buses, supply trucks, staff cars, etc.) on the ground surface of the airport and thus secure safety. It is the most widely used radar system for airport ground surveillance at present.
