Thales Improves Safety in Australian Skies - Next Generation Terminal Area Radars Delivered
Thales continues its 20-year relationship with Australia's travelling public, successfully delivering its Next Generation Terminal Area Radar to Airservices Australia at Adelaide and Sydney airports.
Thales has been contracted to replace its early generation radars with 10 new Terminal Area Radars that provide the essential coverage for Australia's civil airports. Thales has also been contracted to provide a new enroute radar located in Darwin.
The Thales STAR2000/RSM970 system provides air traffic controllers with all the latest and complete information on airborne aircraft. Using the new Mode-S system, the radars collect a vast array of data from equipped aircraft and provide this information to the Thales Eurocat Air Traffic Control system used by Airservices Australia. Information from the new radars allows more efficient control of aircraft, which improves safety and efficiency while reducing the impact of aviation on our environment.
Thales Terminal Area Radars have been specifically adapted to support green energy wind farm power generators that often need to be located within the radar's view.
