In 2007, José Sampaio publishes "Controlo de Tráfego Aéreo. Decisão Operacional e Competências Profissionais em Sistemas Complexos de Trabalho", Lisboa, Roma Editora and, in 2009, publishes "Air Traffic Control. The Challenge of Balanced Human-Machine Operational Interaction", Lisboa, Ed. Lusófonas.

Since 2001, researcher at SOCIUS (Research Center in Economic and Organizational Sociology) with project Virtual_Teams@Work" . From March 2008 to August 2010 Jose Sampaio was Associate professor at the ULHT Aeronautical Sciences Scholl. From 1971 to 2001, José João Sampaio worked at Lisbon Air Traffic Services.
