Airways New Zealand manages flight data with Frequentis
A joint team of Airways New Zealand and Frequentis specialists has designed and implemented a fully integrated, two-way solution with their Flight Data Processing System (FDPS).
Following the initial deployment of smartStrips at Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland international airports in 2007 and 2009, the system has been significantly enhanced to allow exchange of data both to and from the FDPS. Commissioned in October and November 2010, air traffic controllers now have a unified interface to file, amend and process flight data for both IFR and VFR traffic using smartStrips.
"Airways New Zealand is a key partner for the development of our successful smartStrips product line," says Hannes Bardach, CEO of Frequentis. "Together we have ensured that smartStrips is at the leading edge of flight data management solutions". The development team is currently working on improving the workflow using Departure Clearance (DCL) services via datalink according to the Eurocae standard ED- 85A.
smartStrips by Frequentis has now become the key flight management tool for Airways international towers. The fully integrated electronic flight strips (smartStrips) solution significantly reduces voice traffic and allows for silent co-ordination between tower controllers and the ATC centre. This has resulted in reduced controller workload at the same time as improving business productivity, system safety, data coherence, and traceability.
Airways New Zealand and Frequentis have established a close working partnership that has allowed the smooth and efficient deployment of smartStrips technology in New Zealand and to support and develop the Frequentis smartStrips product using direct feedback from air traffic controllers and operational specialists.
