Cleaner Skies and shorter routes in Italy
ENAV, the Italian Air Navigation Service Provider, launches the flight efficiency plan, pragmatic measures to face the air transport crisis
ENAV has launched its own flight efficiency plan. Flights over flying, departing and landing in Italy will perform shorter routes and more efficient flight paths.
The aviation is strongly affected by this economic crisis, deeply impacting also the Air Navigation Service Provides - explains ENAV General Manager Nadio Di Rienzo - To support the air transport sector to recover from the crisis ENAV, in line with the indications of CANSO, IATA and EUROCONTROL, through the launch of its flight efficiency plan, is delivering important benefits to the aviation sector by shortening routes, improving efficiency flight paths and reducing taxi time at airports.
These measures (referred to the major routes of the Italian airspace in night hours) will result in significant cost reductions for the airlines and reduced impact on the environment: considering only the years 2008/2009, in Italy 67300 tons of fuel will be saved, shorter routes for 2.588.000 km will be performed and 211.400 tons of CO2 will not be dispersed in the atmosphere.
In full alignment with its national strategy, ENAV is pursuing the effort also at European level supporting CANSO to accelerate the improvements to be performed at network level.
The plan will be available on www.enav.it
