Era Multilateration System Receives Surveillance Certification in Russia

Era a.s., a subsidiary of SRA International, Inc. (NYSE: SRX), today announced that its MSS multilateration and ADS-B next-generation surveillance system has been certified for operational use by the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) for use in Russia. MSS by Era is now the only next-generation surveillance technology certified for use within Russia.
Eras certification was the result of a seven-month process involving laboratory and field testing, both at Eras ISO 9001-certified factory in the Czech Republic and at Eras operational MSS installation in Dublin, Ireland. MSS was evaluated against reference surveillance systems, such as existing secondary surveillance radar (SSR), and was demonstrated to meet or exceed all performance requirements. Due to the safety-critical nature of air traffic management equipment, certification is an extremely demanding process that requires flawless performance, said Era Senior Vice President Kevin Layton. Our certification by MAK further solidifies the worlds growing acceptance of next-generation surveillance technologies as a replacement for SSRs. Over the past few years, numerous air navigation service providers and civil aviation authorities have certified that Era surveillance technologies meet or exceed the required performance standards of traditional SSRs. MSS by Era provides higher accuracy, greater update rates, better coverage and improved reliability when compared to conventional radar, and does so at a much lower initial cost and with lower annual maintenance costs. MSS also decodes ADS-B signals to all applicable standards, while simultaneously providing multilateration position reports from all commercial aircraft, even those not yet equipped for ADS-B.
