One billion hours of safe air travel with FREQUENTIS advanced voice and data gateway, VCX-IP
The Frequentis voice communication network solution, VCX-IP, has evolved significantly since its initial development around two decades ago. It started as a network solution to enhance network functionality, such as shared access to radios and radars. Several country-wide deployments in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Austria, Oman and Brazil are successful milestones that have contributed considerably to making Frequentis the market leader in network solutions for Air Traffic Management (ATM).
- Frequentis has pioneered ATM-specific countrywide radio network solutions since 1995
- Installations in 70 countries on six continents
- The largest VCX-IP deployments integrate hundreds of radio, phone and data services, comprising over 1,500 network nodes, connecting more than 70 sites with multiple centres
As technology leader Frequentis is pioneering new ideas and capabilities to the market, such as the bi-directional dynamic delay compensation or the automatic voice detection on high frequency signals, also demonstrating high performance and scalability to support up to 1,200 active channels, suitable for the critical operations environment. After the standardisation of the VoIP (voice over internet protocol) in ATM in 2003, Frequentis delivered the first operational references and VCX-IP became a global success story.
“As of October 2022, our network solution accounts for one billion hours of safe air travel for a broad customer base across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania in both legacy and all-IP network environments,” says Hannu Juurakko, Frequentis Vice President ATM Civil and Chairman of the ATM Executive Team. “We thank all our customers for their long-term confidence and look forward to steadily increasing this number!”
VCX-IP is an advanced gateway for voice and data communications complying with European and international VoIP standards for civil and military ATM. It provides protocol conversion for radio, phone and data, enables ATM-specific contingency scenarios using intelligent routing, and optimises ATM applications used by civil and military air navigation service providers. Frequentis actively contributes to standardisation of new technologies in ATM by leading the radio and phone sub-groups of the standardisation committee. The goal is to support customers in achieving their safety, performance and financial targets.
