inter airport Europe announces launch of inter airport FOCUS: The new Sustainability Summit for the airport industry
The organiser of the world’s leading airport exhibition inter airport Europe, Mack-Brooks Exhibitions has announced the launch of inter airport FOCUS, a new live event aimed at performing a deep-dive into one of the airport industry’s cutting-edge, special-interest topics. This year’s event will focus on sustainability, a key issue for airports, which face a rising pressure to reduce their carbon imprint in the near future.
inter airport FOCUS – The Sustainability Summit will take place on 20 & 21 October 2022 at former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, Germany and is organised in partnership with the ADV (German Airports Association) and GATE (German Airport & Technology Equipment).
“As the world is moving towards a greener future, airports around the globe face the same challenge: finding sustainable solutions to meet binding CO2 reduction targets” explains Mack-Brooks’ Exhibitions Portfolio Director Olaf Freier. “inter airport FOCUS is a collaborative meeting point that brings all necessary players together to learn about future-oriented sustainability solutions, share knowledge, compare strategies, exchange ideas, showcase projects and understand current and future needs of tomorrow’s airports.”
Ralph Beisel, CEO of ADV, commented on the inter airport FOCUS launch: “Sustainability is at the core of airports’ long-term strategies. Emission-free airports by 2045 requires a lot – and not in the distant future, but now. Airports need to stay informed about the latest developments to meet the CO2 emission targets. […] inter airport FOCUS unites the aviation industry‘s key stakeholders to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange and the implementation of future-oriented sustainability solutions at airports.”
Whether defined by the European Commission, national governments or internal business directives, demanding legal requirements will urge airports to find and implement innovative solutions to achieve Net Zero emissions. As technologies evolve rapidly, it becomes paramount to keep up to date with the latest developments in terms of sustainable products and services. Additionally, climate targets can only be met through proper funding from governing bodies, making the collaboration with policymakers an essential part of the process.
“Sustainable airports are a combined project of business and politics.” adds Freier. “inter airport FOCUS is a unique opportunity for all stakeholders of the industry, from airport operators to governments and policymakers, from airport suppliers to airport planners, to join forces in addressing climate change objectives.”
The Summit will address the major sustainable trends covering 3 key areas:
Building, infrastructure & facilities
New climate control technologies and sustainable energy concepts can enable airports around the world to reduce their carbon footprint. Constructing and maintaining airport infrastructure can play a vital role in ensuring carbon neutrality.
Airport operations
A host of companies offer emission reducing solutions across all aspects of airport operations; both in the terminal and on the apron. The theme will highlight leading ideas from lighting to logistics and energy supply to electrification to help challenge the perceptions of operational capabilities.
Intermodal mobility
The future of mobility with emission-free transportation. Through unmanned vehicles, eVTOLs and drones, participants will gain insight into the exciting future that will integrate airports into our towns, our cities and beyond.
inter airport FOCUS will feature an extensive programme of activities including:
- 3 conference stages
- Showcases of innovative products
- A display area for the live demonstration of sustainable equipment on the apron,
- A match-making programme and an executive exchange programme to connect participants for valuable collaboration
- Thematic highlight tours showing best-practice solutions
