Fully fault-tolerant architecture, superior scalability and configurability, together with simple maintenance are the strength points of the MULTIFONO® products. They are the most efficient and technologically advanced solution to the technical, functional and reliability needs of communication management systems in strategic civil and military service operating environments.

The key characteristics of the MULTIFONO® products are:

  • State of the art technology
  • Modularity and Sizing for installation in small Control Rooms or large Control Centres
  • Open architecture
  • Seamless expandability
  • Distributed and duplicated logic
  • No single point of failure

State of the art technology

Modularity and Sizing

Configuration flexibility is one of the key characteristics of the MULTIFONO® products. Implemented on a size-independent architecture, the system can be configured for installation in small Control Rooms or large Control Centres with hundreds of Operator Workstations and Radio/Telephone links.

The resulting flexibility allows SITTI customers to upsize their MULTIFONO® installation during the system life cycle, without heavy initial costs to support future upgrades.

Open architecture

MULTIFONO® system configurations can be extended at any time with new links or services and/or additional Operator Workstations simply by adding new interface cards, with no loss of efficiency and seamlessly for all elements not involved in the upgrade.

Distributed and duplicated logic

MULTIFONO® systems are controlled by independent microcomputer operating units, running dedicated firmware/software. This provides an absolute guarantee against the possibility of a single point of failure jeopardising overall system operations.

VoIP Gateway GVS

The extremely flexible architecture of SITTI M800IP® MULTIFONO® Voice Communication System (VCS) opens a wide range of applications in the field of the communications for ATM (Air Traffic Management). Among these, the possibility of multiple connections to remote devices based on EUROCAE ED137 VOIP (Voice Over IP) standards is particularly interesting for many reasons. In fact, when radios are installed at a remote site, it is of utmost importance to allow access to them from different VCS systems (resource sharing).

Standard-compliant remote VOIP radios can be directly interfaced to M800IP®, but remote radios may be old fashioned or from different vendors, and they may not have any IP interface. The solution is SITTI GVS.

Remote radios of any kind can be connected to a standard IP network by means of SITTI GVS gateways that take care of all required settings and possible legacy protocols towards the radio themselves and convert data and audio signals into EUROCAE ED137 standard VOIP.

Thanks to the modular way GVS devices have been thought of, their usage may range from very small radio sites to large radio installation sites with tens of co-located radios through a number of possible interfaces (4 wires standard E&M analogue, E1, Nx64, QSIG digital). Connection to the IP WAN network is duplicated for reliability reasons.

GVS devices include facilities to automatically look for another radio with the same characteristics in case of failure of the one being used; Best Signal Selection (BSS) and audio compression are standard features provided by GVS devices.

As a standard option, GVS devices come along with the built-in capability of integrating other interface boards for connection of co-located equipment of any type (radio and telephone) to digital networks of different kinds (like E1, ISDN, QSIG, etc) without decreasing performance.VoIP Gateway GVS

Digital Clock DEC10

ATM services require a very precise clock reference in order to synchronize their activities. The need of having a common date and time reference is also a requirement for all emergency services, both civil and military.

SITTI propose the DEC10 Digital Electronic Clock System to provide global synchronisation. Thanks to its extremely high reliability, precision and configuration flexibility, DEC10 is the solution for all air traffic control systems, ranging from small towers to large ACC centres.

Many installation options are available, among which the possibility of inserting DEC10 modules into existing SITTI service drawers, or the use of an independent 1 unit high drawer that fits two modules acting in main/standby mode. This allows the Customer to easily add DEC10 devices to existing installations in stand-alone or redundant configuration.

DEC10 modules can be easily fitted into ATM (Air Traffic Management) systems, even if manufactured by third parties. All settings can be done via a dedicated serial line on the front panel or through a web browser via LAN.

SITTI offer for time synchronisation is enriched by Display Slave Units (DSU) that are used to show the current date/time. Many different options and sizes are available, ranging from displays typically used in ACC centres to ordinary analogue ones, from wall mounted to desk/console ones.

Consoles

The many decades of successful presence in the market of Voice Communication Systems confirms SITTI as one of the world primary system suppliers for civil, military, public and private agencies for both Air Traffic Control and strategic emergency services.

The long experience accumulated in this field puts SITTI into the enviable position of being able to design and manufacture different models of consoles that are customised for specific uses, ranging from Control Towers to large Air Traffic Control centres, as well as emergency management Operative Rooms.

The growth of air traffic over recent years has dramatically increased to workload for controllers that must be put in the best condition to properly cope with their tasks in the most comfortable way possible. In this perspective, an optimised synergy must be sought among high-level ergonomics, efficient and effective access to technology, environmental conditions.

The daily use of consoles shall also put together:

• flexibility for incorporating controller’s needs
• integration for space optimisation
• friendliness for handy access to communication equipment
• ergonomy for daily continuous use
• materials for making the workplace as comfortable as possible
• health prevention for avoiding the user to be prone to diseases

The User At The CoreThe user is the core of SITTI interest when it comes to consoles. The leading position of SITTI in technology would be vanished if the user would not receive the importance it has. Top performance technology without a comfortable way of accessing it would otherwise make it unusable.

The utmost importance of user friendly accessibility to communication devices is testified by the different kinds of consoles that have been designed and customised for specific user needs. Special attention is put on providing operators with the best choice in terms of used materials and adjustable seats, not forgetting optimal lighting and appropriate positioning of communication elements (keyboards, earphones, etc).

Flexible hardware and software design approach, modular components, specific hardware and software solutions, all contribute to the common goal of providing Customers with the most advanced yet friendly consoles.

This will result in a higher efficiency of the operators who will get the best from the touch and feel approach of the console design. Tailoring to meet individual needs of each operator is also a must for SITTI.

SITTI Solutions

The vast production of SITTI in this field has brought to the definition of three main console series, especially designed for Operational Rooms, including Air Traffic Control (ATC) centres. The proposed series are named HL, PK, PCF.

AMHS Terminals TAS12

SITTI is a world primary system suppliers for civil, military, public and private agencies for both Air Traffic Control and strategic emergency services. SITTI vast product portfolio includes AMHS Terminals that provide an efficient and standard solution to interface Message Switching Systems.

AMHS is a message handling system which allows the exchange of Air Traffic Services messages among users. AMHS has been conceived to improve the existing worldwide methodology known as AFTN, by using an email-like concept where messages can convey both text and attachments.

AMHS systems basically consist of a message switching node (MTA – Message Transfer Agent) and a number of user positions (UA – User Agents).

SITTI AMHS Terminals are User Agents that fully comply to ICAO SARPS for Aeronautical applications, according to ICAO Doc 9880. SITTI AMHS Terminals have been specifically designed to simplify operators tasks and providing them easy-to-use tools. SITTI AMHS Terminals can be interfaced to any standard third party MTAs.

AMHS Terminals can be used as stand-alone machines or can be seen as Web Servers providing other operative positions the possibility to connect via an ordinary client Web browser and to access AMHS functionalities. Through this connection, operators may prepare messages to be sent and read received messages.

AMHS Terminals can also be interfaced, via LAN or RS232 lines, to local AFTN systems that may therefore be transparently connected to the AMHS network to reach remote users. This AMHS-AFTN gateway feature, in particular, allows local METEO and FDP systems to bi-directionally send/receive messages to/from the AMHS network without modifying their current connection mode that remains AFTN.
